He will need to <br />recuse himself from the next case as well (1245 Grant). He will come back after the <br />next two applications. <br />Trice presented the information provided in staffs report. She explained the existing <br />conservation easement that governs the street facing facade and how any changes to <br />the facade must be reviewed by the Historic Preservation Commission and City Council. <br />She then explained how the applicant is requesting to modify some of the regulated <br />elements governed by the conservation easement. <br />Steve Stoneman, owner /applicant, presented. He explained his interest in rebranding <br />the business, distancing himself from the Rex Restaurant. He stated the new restaurant <br />will be known as "Madera Grill" <br />Watson asked if anyone from the public is interested in speaking on this subject. None <br />heard. <br />Fasick asked staff if they had an opinion on the changes to the marquee. <br />Trice stated staff is fine with the changes to the marquee. <br />Watson stated the intent of the facade was to emulate what was seen in the past. He <br />asked staff to point out these elements. <br />Trice pointed out the specific elements of the facade which were found throughout <br />history. <br />Fasick stated the elements being displayed were all never shown together. For <br />instance, the marquee was placed over the arch. <br />Watson asked how long it was Senior T's. <br />Stoneman stated 33 years. <br />Watson asked Stoneman to recap what he wants to change. <br />Stoneman stated he can either keep or remove the marquee and believes there are <br />things he can make work, but his main concern is to rebrand. <br />Watson asked staff to identify what needs to stay. <br />Trice stated it is the false front facade, metal siding, screening, cornice, arch and <br />marquee. She added the text shown in the screen also must remain. She added the <br />marquee was not copy specific. <br />Fasick stated she agreed with staffs assessment that the marquee could change, and <br />she didn't mind it stating "Historic Louisville Rex ".
