Louisville Sustainability Advisory Board
Meeting Minutes
November 19, 2014
Page2of4
Jim mentioned that LSAB should help put together a plan for recognizing participants at city
council meetings. Energy, Water, Waste, Transportation is the recurring theme for Boulder county,
Bronze, silver and gold medals. Different tiring strategies. Jay gave the example that by using LED
lighting in downtown Louisville for Christmas lights this year resulting in a $20,000 savings. Justine
mentioned advertising information about sustainability programs on the 80027 and 80026 Facebook
accounts.
It was mentioned that the sustainability committee page on the city website (once new
website is up and running) be used to provide information on city's successes. Another suggestion
would be have a running electronic board at the Library to information the public of successes of all
boards, not just Sustainability.
VIII. Team Reports on Sustainability Road Map Meetings with other Boards
a. Energy Efficiency — Jim presented the roadmap discussion to the Revitalization
Board and David presented to the Historical Commission. Both of these boards were
very interested but wanted more concrete information. These boards feel like the
city, as well as individuals in the city, have done a lot towards sustainability. Maybe
we are not taking credit for what has already been done. Citizens are accomplishing
wonderful things. Is there a way to advertise successes to this point? Several ideas
thrown out to accomplish this but nothing definite.
b. Localization — Justine presented to Business Retention and Development Committee
(BRaD). Dialogue at the meeting was that members are very interested in the
program but don't necessarily own the buildings that house their shops. How can
they promote to owners? Also they felt there was a need for more communication
from the City regarding success stories.
c. Resource Conservation — Mark attended the Golf Course Advisory Board. The Golf
Board feels they are limited in what they can do. Mark provided them with the
University of Minnesota study. Areas that would be of concern to them would be
water usage and use of recycled water for irrigation. Since the irrigation system is
completely new due to rebuilding after the flood, there should be vast improvement to
the water use. It was suggested a comparison be done once the system is up and
running and plants have had a chance to establish to compare to use prior to 2013.
d. Mary Ann reported to the Youth Advisory Board. She received great feedback. The
kids were interested and excited in the thought of participating in the City's
sustainability roadmap.
The main purpose of meeting with other Boards is to provide information and ask the Boards to
consider sustainability as part of their programs as they consider their projects in the future. It was
suggested we invite members from other Sustainability Boards, Denver, Lafayette and Broomfield.
Mary Ann said she would be happy to make calls and get folks lined up for us.
Boulder County will again in 2015 provide a Sustainability Matching Grant. Justine, and other board
members, struggle with the amount of time needed to develop the roadmap. Grant could be used for
a technical writer with sustainability experience to help pull together the roadmap. Further discussion
on this at the next meeting.
Public Works Department
303.335.4608 (phone)
City of Louisville
749 Main Street
303.335.4550 (fax)
Louisville CO 80027
www.louisvilleco.gov
