a mix of rye (7 days to germinate) and bluegrass (21 days to germinate.) The additional seed is
accounted for in the budget and is in storage on site.
Q: are we on track to the Budget?
A: we are on track to the budget. The contract with LU was on a not -to- exceed basis and
contained two separate contingency amounts. The City Contingency has been used to provide
additional features such as the Punchbowl green, while the Contractors Contingency was
consumed by additional work such as groundwater mitigation requiring a 3 -layer approach to
the pond liners and the use of the more robust HDP material for the irrigation piping. The HDP
piping should mean that no maintenance will be needed on the system for a significant period.
With the contingencies consumed, there is no funding left for hoped -for additions such as
providing a restroom by the 15th tee.
0: debris in Coal Creek contributed significantly to the flooding last year. What has been done
to mitigate it?
A: work on the creek bed is constrained by requirements from FEMA and we are not allowed to
alter the course of the creek. Some of the first work completed was to clear the channel of rock
and tree debris under permits issued by FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers. We also
completed some "common sense" improvements to protect (as much as possible) adjoining
homes from runoff problems and any future floods. The concept is to allow the golf course to
act as a temporary holding area in the case of a flood - as it was designed to do — and direct
flood water towards the creek for gradual dissipation downstream.
0: will the renovation affect the playability of the golf course and improve the problems with tee
levels and poor bunker conditions
A: All tees have been laser - leveled and now have a 3" sand base which should allow any
damage to repair quickly. All sand traps have been rebuilt with proper drainage and a margin
design that should allow easier maintenance and avoid too much blow -out of the sand. Tees
have been adjusted in height — for example the fairway on hole 16 is now visible from all the tee
boxes. Additional back tees have been added to challenge expert golfers and forward tees built
for the elderly, infirm and young golfers. All the greens have been rebuilt and will provide a fully
consistent playing experience. Some greens have added undulation allowing more or less
challenging pin positions to be used. Several bunkers have been relocated, added or removed
to ensure that their position is appropriate to modern playing standards. The Colorado Golf
association will revisit the ratings of the course prior to opening day. The architect intends that
the course will provide the same level of difficulty following the rebuild.
Q: what about the underpass under Dillon Road
A: the cart path through the tunnel will be rebuilt in time for opening. No work has been done
yet to avoid conflict with the plans to repair the damage to the bridge. That is the responsibility
of the Public Works Department in conjunction with the Highway Authority.
Q: what is being done on the driving range?
A: the teeing area has been significantly improved with a proper 1% downward grade. The tees
are now positioned along an arc so every position has a proper view of the range. Target
greens have been put in place so that the driving range gives a better representation of normal
play. The chipping practice area has been rebuilt and there is a new practice putting green in
addition to the Punchbowl green.
0: will green fees increase?
A: green fees are likely to increase when the course reopens but will be competitive with the
fees at comparable local courses. The City will honor the commitment to Peak Players and
Summit Club members for unexpired portions of their memberships but new marketing plans
may or may not include Peak Player or Summit Club options. This is still under discussion
along with other incentive plans. The City is integrating the Western Golf database into the new
(Club Prophet) management software for the course to ensure that the obligations to members
4
