CONFIRMATION - PROPOSED STUDY SESSION
DATES Asti-Caranci submitted a proposed study session
schedule for January and February to discuss
key issues facing the City.
Hornbostel asked that a study session regarding
Public Works issues be moved up and take place
as soon as possible because of some information
received involving an issue with the City of
Lafayette. Mayor Fauson felt the issue
Hornbostel was referring to should be brought
to the attention of the remainder of Council
and could be discussed at the Executive Session
scheduled for tomorrow evening before making
any adjustments to the Study Session Calendar.
APPROVAL OF CHANGE ORDER #2 - RECREATION
CENTER Davidson asked that this item be placed under
Regular Business to discuss some of the
upgrades requested including a centrifugal
dryer.
The proposed change order was outlined by
Marschner. He explained that contingency funds
are incorporated into the overall recreation
center budget with a current balance of
$94,538. The funds were budgeted to cover
expenses as a result of soil and utility
unknowns and for possible upgrades in the
center construction. Soil and utilities have
presented no unusual problems and at the
present stage of construction, upgrades could
now be incorporated which would positively
impact the appearance and usability of the
center and leave a project contingency balance
of $41,484 (an appropriate balance for the
remaining construction). Marschner emphasized
that though the upgrades are listed as change
orders, the recommendations are not based on
any oversight in design or construction. The
upgrades recommended are possible as a result
of site conditions not varying significantly
from those anticipated at the conception of
design.
Marschner and Baysinger explained that the
dryer would enable people who use the Rec
Center to quickly dry their suits after
swimming. This would enhance the City's
ability to attract business people who may need
to return to work immediately following their
workout. There were concerns expressed
regarding the safety of this equipment and
Baysinger assured Council that they were safe.
11
