now, why not wait for development? <br />Phare stated it is an improvement to the <br />safety of the roadway. <br />Davidson asked if we would suffer some kind <br />of liability in the future if we do not put <br />in street lights? <br />Williams stated that should not be a <br />consideration at this time. <br />Carnival stated the Finance Committee did <br />review this and did approve the proposal. <br />Carnival moved and Sackett seconded to <br />approve the $15,000 from the Capital <br />Improvement Program for 1990. Motion passed <br />7-0. <br />AUTHORIZATION TO BID - TELEPHONE EQUIPMENT <br />Davidson asked a few questions about the <br />current system. How does the current system <br />work. <br />Marschner stated currently there are 11 lines <br />that come through different main attendant <br />stations. There are six lines coming into <br />the main attendant station, for general city <br />use. We have five lines that come into an <br />attendant station for the police department. <br />There is a separate line into the building <br />department, a separate line that goes into <br />Community Services, one to the City <br />Administrators office and one to Public <br />Works. I do not know what the capacity of <br />the switch is. What I am trying to do is let <br />the vendors review the equipment we have and <br />if they feel it can be upgraded and used, <br />then do that. <br />Davidson suggested that maybe we should have <br />a consultant come in and see what the city <br />really needs. <br />Howard stated he would feel better if we knew <br />what we really wanted, so when someone came <br />to us with a bid then we would know whether <br />or not that bid was correct. <br />Davidson explained that five years ago we <br />bought a new system and we did not establish <br />our need then.
