sponsibility as elected officials by the
citizens of Louisville who have
overwhelmingly asked you to get out of the
authority. These are the people who have
nothing to gain financially from the
authority. One thing is clear we as the
citizens who have elected you to represent us
don't want this highway. Those of you who
are newly elected are there in large part
because of your position on this highway.
Please don't betray your promises and those
who have been on council listen to the
voters. Council members we have been around
in circles long enough. Listen to the
citizens and lets get out of this authority.
Donna Wicker, 227 Hoover Ave, stated that the
comment was stated a couple of times in the
last session about running the council like a
business. It was used in justification for
continuing in W-470. Let's remember that its
okay to run it like a business, it is not
governments' job to run it like a business.
In fact the laws in this country restrict the
rights of corporations to actively
participate in the political process. There
is a good reason for that and that is what is
good for General Motors is not necessarily
good for America. If you want to run this
like a business you better know your market.
That includes the demographics. I suggest
that you look at the $29,000 as a past
expenditure and not use it as a criteria for
deciding whether or not to go forward.
Tom Mayer, 580 Wildrose Way, stated that the
distance from U.S. 36 interchange to the
airport verses the distance using W-470 is
not 1/10 of a mile but is 9/10 of a mile. I
would like the council to consider given the
fact that for citizens on the west side of
town you have a 3 to 4 minute difference
between the two routes. For the citizens on
the east there is a difference between five
and ten minutes. Using the authorities own
figures for when the toll road opens at 10
cents a mile with the distance to the airport
of 34.8 miles it would cost around $7.00. Do
you think people are going to be willing to
pay this kind of money?
Robert Lathrop, 235 Hoover Court, suggested
that the council stay in the authority in
order to help economic development.
