ahead with this proposal.
John Leary, 1116 LaFarge, Louisville, Co.
Leary: I see this proposal as one that is providing the
City with great opportunities in a number of
areas. A survey was done by the city not too long
ago and one thing that was the highest priority on
the list was open space. We have an opportunity
here to fulfill a priority of the city with
resources that are competing with other things
that we need to do. The business community puts a
high priority on roads and transportation systems.
This highway issue is a very important issue, once
this goes by we are not going to have anything
else that can force people to the table. It is
only going to be good will. I think we need to
talk to Broomfield about what we are going to have
around an interchange, like make sure there are
setbacks and landscaping. I think the public is
tired of having a Council that seems to accomplish
nothing but fighting. We have a proposal here
that is reasonable, it uses existing roads, it has
a cost that is in the ballpark of what can be
afforded. It provides the opportunity to phase
these things as they are needed. I think it is
your responsibility to show that you do have the
ability to govern, to compromise, and to look at
other people's positions and honor them. This
alternative was difficult for me, it involved
trade offs that I don't like to make. I have
never seen any studies that support the airport
access arguments or the economic development
arguments. The net to this proposal is positive.
I would encourage you to support this proposal and
I would encourage you to take advantage of these
proposals.
Sackett: Was there consideration given to the idea of
extending, 96th to 42 and then follow 42 east to
Broomfields curved road there instead of Dillon?
Hornbostel: No, it was not mentioned.
Sackett: I thought that might enhance Louisville to some
degree rather than Dillon Road. I felt that one
thing we would want to do is connect 96th with 42
and that would insure that would happen. Then you
use 42 out by the cemetery and that would connect
with the curve roadway that is not built yet.
Hornbostel: It wouldn't connect directly because you have to
go through Lafayette for a portion of the time.
You would have to go from our 42 on South Boulder
Road. Basically the alternates that they had
5
