Brian noted that the Men’s Club has180 – 200 members each with
diverse and strongly held opinions.
6. Staff Update on course outstanding issues:
a.The Board welcomed the hire of David Baril as Head Professional. David will
come on board on Feb 23 and is already working with Joe on questions so he can
hit the ground running. We now have “Davids” as both Head Pro and Golf
Superintendent and the Board congratulated Joe on making two good hiring
decisions.
b.Update on Punch List: David D reported as follows
o Finishing work is being done on the drainage on hole 4. When that is
complete, work will resume on the drainage on hole 15
o The driving range has been over-seeded and seeding of the Himalaya green
has been done using a mix of seed and fungicide.
o Given the delay in seeding the fairway on hole 14, sod will be used for the
landing area. When this is done, LU will still have an additional 30,000 sq ft
of sod available for use on problem areas.
o David will take responsibility for creating the nursery green with his staff.
o LU has two people on site at present and will bring on additional staff in
March. LU will have up to 30 workers on board during Spring to complete
the work and implement the grow-in plan
o The plan of record remains for a Spring opening. The entire course will be
over-seeded as part of that plan when soil temperatures have warmed up
sufficiently. Some dormant seeding has been carried out.
o The main line of the irrigation system has been charged and is being used to
control the pond fill as well as for some watering. A compressor is on loan
from Parks and Recreation should we need to blow out the system if there is
a hard frost.
o It is hoped to open the Practice Area early using mats on the driving range.
The mechanical picker should be able to be used on all parts of the range
except for the target greens which will be hand-picked.
o A quote has been obtained from TORO for maintenance equipment. $750K
was budgeted and the estimate so far comes to $546K. This includes all
mowers, an aerator and bunker maintenance equipment. Purchase of one
mower has been authorized by Council and the full list is being submitted to
Council for contract approval. Equipment is both diesel and gasoline (to
meet Tier 4 emissions standards.) Purchase will be done through LL
Johnson using their Government Contract agreement and pricing. All
equipment will be new except for the grinders retained from WGP. LU
