Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
February 9, 2015
Koertje stated the awards were good and relatively painless.
Trice stated Fahey had mentioned having more of a ceremony of when the plaques are
handed out.
Watson stated the mayor could be involved and a press release could be made.
Fahey stated she imagined it more of a ribbon cutting ceremony. She added another
outreach is the DBA has a dog of the month on their website and wondered if the board
would want to do a structure of the month on our website.
The board thought it would be a good idea to pursue something like this.
Koertje stated the awards were nice because they would illustrate items like sensitive
additions and street presentations, etc. He stated it is an effective tool for PR. He said
an award for good addition is always a good one to bring up.
Stewart agreed and recommended an item for a future agenda.
Haley stated the plaque awarding ceremony would be good to do in May for
preservation month.
Fahey stated we should be partnering more with the museum to showcase our events
on their campus to make it a more visible part of our process.
Koertje stated we also used to have a demolition map that was periodically updated.
He stated this was an effective took to show the structures which have been
demolished.
Fahey stated the one event we could piggy back is the First Friday's Art walk.
Watson recommended the first Friday in May.
Update on Demolition — 1001 Lincoln, 564 Grant, 841 Garfield
1001 Lincoln
Watson met with the owner of 1001 Lincoln and made several recommendations. He
mentioned the owner stated his plan was to create a structure that would allow for an aging
parent to live with him. He stated a much more flexible design package might have helped.
Stewart asked if he was aware of the zoning incentives.
Watson stated he was but it did not make a difference.
Stewart asked if there were any other alternatives made for demolition including giving away
the structure.
Watson did not discuss giving away the structure. He asked where it could be placed.
