Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
March 16, 2015
Fahey is in favor of landmarking the elevator and the land it is sitting on due to
archaeology, architectural and social significance.
Watson asked if we can include the land even though it hasn't been officially platted.
Trice stated you can include the land as it is proposed and the updated legal description
will be corrected prior to recordation.
Stewart asked if the board thought if the shed was an integral part of the site.
Trice stated the shed will be on a separate property and would need to be considered
separately.
Koertje recommended we talk about the shed at this point. He stated the shed should
be looked at individually based on the criteria. He went through each criteria and found
the shed does not comply with the criteria and he recommends demolition of the
structure due to its poor condition and lack of integrity.
Demolition of the Shed
Watson stated there is a projected cost of restoration that would make rehabilitation of
the shed very high, especially since the shed would need to be moved.
Fasick stated she agrees with Koertje.
Fahey stated she was in favor of releasing the demo permit for the shed because its
removal will enhance the view to the grain elevator.
Haley agrees with the previous board member statement.
Fahey made motion to release the demo permit for the shed.
Koertje seconded the motion.
Motion was approved 6 -0.
Landmarking of the Grain Elevator
Watson stated he made a motion to approve the landmarking of the grain elevator.
Stewart seconded the motion.
Motion approved 6 -0.
Alteration Certificate
Watson introduced the proposal.
