Louisville City Council Meeting <br />February 4, 2003 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />City Manager Bill Simmons introduced representatives from AT & T Broadband, who <br />would update Council on plans to provide high-speed Internet access for the City. <br /> <br />Wendy Farley, AT& T Broadband, 8000 E. Iliff, Denver, CO, introduced Construction <br />Engineer Mark Button and reviewed plans for high-speed access in Louisville, which <br />highlighted the upgrade of the cable system in Louisville. The cable would be upgraded <br />to 750 Megahertz and be two-way capable, and would bring new channels on the cable <br />service and provide high speed Intemet availability to every resident in Louisville. AT & <br />T Broadband plan to utilize the following methods to communicate messages to the <br />public of the construction activity and the upgrade of services: written information on <br />each door, telephone messages to residents and letters from marketing department <br />informing them high-speed data is now available in Louisville. AT & T Broadband will <br />be digging in yards and the restoration guarantee is good for one year from the date of the <br />construction work. Customers might experience cable service interruption in the upgrade <br />process during daytime hours. <br /> <br />Brown asked Farley to give the City Staff their information, including email addresses, in <br />the event that problems arise during the upgrade process. <br /> <br />Sisk asked when the citizens of Louisville could expect high-speed Internet service. <br />Mark Button stated they propose to have the upgrade completed by the end of May, <br />which would include FCC certification of performance, specifications, and notification to <br />the cable service customers. <br /> <br />Sisk asked if Intemet access would be available by the middle of the year. Farley stated <br />the Internet access would be available thirty days after the construction is complete, <br />therefore, sometime in late June. <br /> <br />COUNCIL INFORMATIONAL COMMENTS ON PERTINENT ITEMS NOT ON <br /> THE AGENDA <br /> <br />Davidson asked Assistant City Manager for Governmental Affairs Heather Balser to <br />update Council on the Mayors' Coalition meetings with officials in Washington, D.C. <br /> <br />Balser reported the following: <br /> <br />· Wednesday - January 29: Meetings with the National League of Cities <br /> representatives, Senators Allard and Campbell, Representatives Udall, Beauprez <br /> and Degette. <br />· Thursday - January 30: Meetings with Federal Transit Authority and Federal <br /> Highway Administration officials, to discuss, US36, and the reauthorization of <br /> 221, which is a major federal transportation bill. <br />· Friday - January 31: Meetings with potential lobbyists to work on behalf of <br /> NCT, in Washington, D.C. She reported the Group has a preferred lobbyist firm <br /> in mind and hope to have a contract for the next City Council meeting. <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br /> <br />
