In response to a question by Sackett, Stahl
explained that the Seniors are concerned about
their growing and expanding group in terms of
activities and the necessity of having a larger
room for their on-going activities. During the
design process of the Center, these needs will be
addressed. Sackett is concerned with the language
of the Resolution regarding the needs of the
Seniors and recommends that it read, "special
activity areas recognizing the unique needs of
infants and seniors." Sackett stated that this
would give them the latitude to sit down with the
senior group and negotiate their needs.
Williamson stated that this is only a commitment
on the part of Council that the four projects
outlined in the Resolution are what the increase
in sales and the implementation of the use tax
will be used to fund. The Resolution should not
be interpreted to suggest that any allocation of
square footage to any group has been determined.
This is only a commitment of the money to the
projects as outlined..
Mayor Fauson stated that the Seniors are having a
potluck tomorrow and felt they would welcome
Sackett's attendance so that he can talk directly
to them regarding their needs.
Mayor Fauson moved and Ferrera seconded to adopt
Resolution #5, Series 1989 which incorporates the
relocation of the Library to the Fischer Building.
By Roll Call Vote, Resolution #5, Series 1989 was
adopted 7-0.
RECESS Mayor Fauson called for a 10 minutes recess and
Councilman Mohr excused himself from the remainder
of the meeting.
RESOLUTION #7, SERIES 1989 - INSTALLATION OF TRAFFIC SIGNALS ON SOUTH
BOULDER ROAD AT
GARFIELD AVENUE Read by title only Resolution #7, Series 1989, "A
Resolution to construct and install a traffic
signal at South Boulder Road and Garfield Avenue."
Phare explained that this project is included in
the 1989 Capital Improvements Program and funding
arrangements for construction and installation of
this signal call for use of Federal Aid Urban
System dollars allotted to the City. This
Resolution is necessary in order to obtain the
funding provided through the State. Louisville
will prepare construction plans for review and the
State will take bids and contract directly for the
signal installation.
9
