IU citiyof
Louisville
Golf Course Advisory Board Minutes
April 20 2015
COLORADO SINCE 1878
on site to marshal the crowds and additional help in the form of police presence
and volunteers will be needed, patrolling in golf carts to protect greens, tees
and other sensitive areas. Details will be published in the June edition of the
City newsletter.
o The Annual Spaghetti Open is being scheduled for mid -July
b. Update on Punch List: The board expressed concern that many areas, particularly
tees and fairways were still totally unplayable and asked the golf course staff what
their confidence level was in being in an acceptable condition by the end of June.
Both Davids stated that they had over 90% confidence in being able to meet the
date based on their experience of similar situations. David D reported in detail as
follows:
o The go -no -go decision on opening will be made in late May. All activities are
being driven towards an on -time opening but a potential Plan B would
require a delay if growing conditions become poor.
o Re- seeding of all fairways is 50% complete, a higher proportion of rye grass
is being used which has faster germination. 20,000 square feet of sod is
budgeted to be used to patch critical areas.
o The pitching green and the punchbowl green are being totally re- seeded as
there is minimal germination in these areas
o Left and right sides of fairway #3 are in bad shape and may need to be
sodded.
o LU remains fully committed to the completion date and have brought on 24
workers rather than the planned 9 to expedite the work.
o Depending on course conditions it may be necessary to restrict the number
of tee times and enforce a path -only policy for golf carts.
o The bridge approaches will have concrete poured on April 21st. The board
expressed surprise that this had been delayed so long given that the bridges
were installed in November — even given the concern over spells of freezing
conditions in winter. Running heavy cement trucks over the course will
cause damage.
o Mowing has started on most fairways and this will stimulate growth, along
with the application of Ammonium Nitrate fertilizer.
o LU will be asked to state their plans for the narrow strips of land between the
ponds and homeowner properties — for example on #2, #9, #10, #11 and
#14. Homeowners accept that this will not be irrigated or closely mown but
the City should still ensure that it acts as a good neighbor for these areas. In
certain cases, homeowners will be given a license to use these areas under
defined restrictions as if part of their property.
o The signage for the tee markers etc. is in production and posts are being
prepared to support the signs.
