Citvof
Louisville
COLORADO SINCE 1878
projects. He reported that Chris Lichty will be attending Development Review
meetings. Dean suggested that HFAB consider meeting at the new City Shops Building
when finished (Fall). There will be a conference room with TV screen to view
landscape plans more easily. Dean will invite City Planner, Troy Russ, to the August
meeting to discuss the development review process from his perspective and HFAB's.
VIII. Preparation for August 11 Study Session: There was much discussion about what items
to include in the Study Session report and the presentation. Mark graciously agreed to
put together the Power Point presentation for the 8/11 Study Session using the 2014
format with updates. Council has moved forward on many of the items requested at the
2014 Study Session and should be thanked: An architect has been hired for the
bathroom design. The job will be bid in conjunction with the bathroom renovations at
Heritage Park. A sign has been approved for the Arboretum for 2015. Drainage issues
at the pergola are being addressed. For the 2015 report, it was decided to present issues
in terms of investment in the future. Proper maintenance of existing and future
plantings in and around Louisville is key. The Arboretum Xeric garden is a prime
example of an investment gone bad. The goal is to bring an awareness of properties
including median strips that have been installed with pictures of these areas when new
and `now' pictures showing the deterioration through insufficient maintenance.
Statistics to include in the report: Current City maintenance includes 26 parks, 140
acres of blue grass, 250 acres of undeveloped property, dedicated open space, City Hall,
plus the number of trees under the City's care (inventory of trees to be provided by
Chris). Additionally, focus Council's awareness on the expanding future maintenance
requirements, i.e. new builder property dedications, the Diamond interchange
landscaping, while at the same time, maintenance money coming from the open space
tax /land conservation trust is to be reduced.
IX. July Agenda Items: 1. Continuation and refinement of the Power Point Presentation for
the August study session report for Council —Power point presentation to include
photos of maintenance `eyesores' to highlight need for more resources. Chris is
working on an inventory of City landscapes, trees, and existing irrigation systems to
determine the staffing levels needed for maintenance The 2015 issues are proper
maintenance and adequate staffing necessary to protect the original investment and
keep Louisville beautiful. 2. Development Review process with City Planner, Troy
Russ.
X. The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 pm.
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT • 749 MAIN STREET • LOUISVILLE, CO 80027
(303) 335 -4735 • FAX (303) 335 -4738
www.Iouisvilleco.gov
PARKS RECREATION SENIOR SERVICES 3OPEN SPACE FORESTRY TRAILS GOLF
