IU citiyof
Louisville
Golf Course Advisory Board Minutes
July 20 2015
COLORADO SINCE 1878
more on the view looking towards the course from their property. The homeowners
also stated that the golf course plan showed a 10' mowed strip at their property
boundary which is in place at present. This was disputed but (Secretary's note) the
plan dated Jan 2014 does show a mowed strip at that point. The Board thanked the
group for their input and for their favorable comments on other aspects of the course.
Staff and the Board noted that there will be on -going efforts to fine -tune the course
conditions for the benefit of golfers and adjacent homeowners but with only three
weeks of experience under our belts, it would be unwise to deviate from the plan until
the course matures. Work will be done to tame some of the more aggressive rough
but this awaits delivery of a baling mower.
One homeowner drew Staff's attention to a sunken disused sprinkler head and this
will be attended to as part of routine maintenance.
5. Staff Update on outstanding course issues:
a. Golfer feedback. David Baril presented a comprehensive list of accomplishments
and issues. Overall, response from golfers has been very positive. The look and
feel of the course is much appreciated despite the known maturity issues. The tall
grass attracts a large number of lost balls as well as numerous comments both
negative and positive. Dynamic pricing appears to be working well although many
find it confusing. It is meeting its goal of attracting golfers at the top rate during
the most popular playing times. The POS system still has teething troubles and
Lisa noted that Ladies League members complained about being charged
different amounts for league play. The system relies on email addresses to
identify pass holders for the discounted rates and that is open to error. More tee -
times are booked per hour during the premium 1.5 hours than are booked at the
lower rates immediately before and after. The premium rate is competitive with
rack rates at comparable courses. It was also noted that Coal Creek offers a 10%
discount to Louisville citizens on passes (Acme, Ajax, Imperial and Regal)
although there is no citizen discount on a per round basis. It was noted that the
cart fee of $18 is higher than any other local course and does not include GPS.
Any negative comments around competitive pricing should abate once the system
is better understood. After 3 weeks, 3039 paid rounds have been played and no
complementary rounds other than some at the Grand Opening. Interim "Local
Rules" on how to cope with the high rough and with immature areas of fairways
are printed on the scorecards and inconsistently advised by the starter. The Mens
Club and Ladies League have specific published variants for their members. The
Strokers League needs to do the same. Cory suggested that a cleaned -up
website should include the ability to gain more quantitative feedback rather than
relying on anecdotal inputs. With the available resources, a lot of effort is going
into marketing the course although efforts are more tactical than strategic.
