LCityof
Louisville
Golf Course Advisory Board Minutes
August 17 2015
COLORADO • SINCE 1878
noted that day to day catering for golfers was low- margin business and she is
working on increasing the foot traffic. The Board and Sarah noted ways that the
Restaurant should be promoted. A Link in the Golf website is the most obvious —
such as 3 Tomatoes does at Fossil Trace — She plans to use newspaper ads for
special events and would like to do an email blast using the golf course contact
list. The Local HOAs, the Golf Leagues, the Louisville Chamber of Commerce,
the Downtown Business Association and the McCaslin group were suggested as
being organizations that could help with promotion. Informal comments on the
0027 Facebook group will also be helpful. The Board suggested that the menu
could give more prominence to Vegetarian and Gluten -free options. The success
of the Mine is closely linked to the success of the golf course and the Board
encourages maximum synergy between the two operations. An example of such
synergy is the "Buckets and Beer" whereby the Pro Shop provided range balls
and The Mine provides the catering.
b. David Dean reported on the condition of the golf course:
Hole 1 is suffering from some disease (wet spring followed by hot windy weather)
Hole 4: turf is in poor condition on the right hand side. Also, the native area
between hole 4 and hole 6 is being mowed — following what LU had done. This
should be allowed to grow to meet the design.
Hole 5: long grass in the rough needs to be mowed and pathway to front tees
mowed
Hole 8: need to mow path from walkers coming from #7 green
Hole 9: poor turf growth on mound
Hole 10: fairway seeding required
Hole 11: needs to be over - seeded
Hole 12: surrounds to the tees and RHS of the greed have been seeded
Hole 13: poor turf growth on mound shared with hole 9
Hole 14: irrigation coverage has been adjusted
Hole 15: some poor turf growth over irrigation laterals
Hole 17: back tee almost ready for play
Hole 18: RHS tends to hold water due to tree shading. Adjusting irrigation system
is tricky to avoid drying out LHS
The fairway on #9 is worst shape and it was noted that the poorest areas of
fairways are those which had not needed work during the reconstruction. There is
an ongoing program of over - seeding all thin areas of turf.
The Himalaya Green is ready to be cut shorter and the Practice Putting green is
recovering from the mowing damage.
The Nursery Green has been mowed and has 7000 sq ft of available sod. David
is keeping a bare patch for experimentation with different seeds etc.
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT • 749 MAIN STREET • LOUISVILLE, CO 80027
(303) 335 -4735 FAX (303) 335 -4738
www.Iouisvil leco.gov
PARKS RECREATION SENIOR SERVICE4S.
