IU city,,,
Louisville
Golf Course Advisory Board Minutes
September 21 2015
COLORADO • SINCE 1878
• The Board should have no problem working with staff to implement the
recommendations from the letter or the study session.
• Council continues to desire the golf course becomes financially self- sufficient
without reliance on a subsidy from the General Fund; GCAB oversight and
recommendations will be critical to making this happen
• The Board should work with Staff to ensure that published measurements have
adequate detail without exposing sensitive competitive information (it was noted
that the board should have no problem finding out information from staff as most
City information is available through open records)
The Board expressed their appreciation to Councilwoman Stolzmann and to Council
for their support and committed to continue working to make the golf course an asset
to the City
5. Staff Update on golf course outstanding items:
a. Golfer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive: one complaint was received
listing the difficultly of the green on hole #5, wet bunkers, rocks on fairway 10 and
lack of garbage cans. The Board encouraged the golf staff to come up with a
better way to encourage and track feedback. Positive comments were received
on the discounted fees during aerification. One issue arose when several golfers
presented dubious Groupon coupons for a reservation during the peak weekend
rate period. Staff declined to accept the coupons and showed the golfers
concerned how they could get their money back from Groupon.
b. Overall, the course is in very good shape. The high rough has been mowed and
baled to an acceptable height and the contrast between the tan rough and the
green fairways is most attractive. The Board noted that the rough behind the
green on hole #1 has been cut to an acceptable height although David D was not
aware that this was done by his team. Weeds are being sprayed as necessary.
Algae blooms have reappeared on the pond by hole #12: this is a factor of the
phosphate content of recycled water. The approach to the green on hole #3 is
swampy: a drain will be dug this fall to alleviate that problem. Holes #4 and holes
#18 suffer from excessive water in the area shaded by the trees and dry
conditions on the sunny side. The sprinkler heads have been turned off on the
shaded side to compensate. Overall, the irrigation system is working well with no
leaks or problems. The space has been prepared by the tee on hole #12 for the
memorial bench for Sybille: the bench will be delivered in the next week. All
greens have been hollow -tine aerated using 1/2" tines at 3" spacing giving 4%
soil displacement and have recovered very well. The greens will be cross -tine
punched in spring. The organic content of the greens subsoil will be checked in a
year to see how the organic matter has built up and determine future aerification
techniques. Next steps will be to aerate the tee boxes followed by the fairways
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT • 749 MAIN STREET • LOUISVILLE, CO 80027
(303) 335 -4735 FAX (303) 335 -4738
www.louisvilleco.gov
PARKS RECREATION SENIOR SERVICES OPEN SPACE FORESTRY TRAILS GOLF
