Motion passed by a 7-0 vote. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 1114, SERIES 1993 - AMENDING CHAPTER 2.36 OF THE <br />LOUISVILLE MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO ELECTIONS - 1STREADING - SET <br />PUBLIC HEARING 7/20/93 <br /> <br />Griffiths read by title only Ordinance No. 1114, Series 1993, "An <br />ordinance amending chapter 2.36 of the Louisville Municipal Code <br />relating to elections." <br /> <br />Susan Griffiths, City Attorney, explained that this ordinance is <br />part of the ongoing effort to update the City Code to reflect <br />changes in State law and to remove outdated provisions in the Code. <br />In 1993, the Municipal Election Code was amended and the Uniform <br />Election Code, which was adopted a year or so ago was also amended. <br />There is a requirement in the recent changes in the election laws, <br />which state that, with respect to the City, any coordinated <br />elections in the future will be conducted by the County Clerk, <br />unless mail ballots are used. She explained that coordinated <br />elections are elections in which more than one political <br />subdivision, whose boundaries overlap with another political <br />subdivision, will have an election on the same date. It's going to <br />occur in November of this year. She pointed out on page 4 of the <br />Ordinance that there is new language for a recount, paragraph <br />2.36.070 A. She stated that, if Council chose to remove 2.36.070, <br />then the cost of any such recount would be paid by the city instead <br />of by the requesting party. In Section 2 there is an emergency <br />clause in this ordinance, which would have the effect of making the <br />ordinance go into effect immediately after passage on 2nd reading <br />and signing by the Mayor, rather than waiting 30 days after <br />publication. The reason for this is it's an effort to get all of <br />these election provisions into effect prior to the November 1993 <br />elections and all of the time requirements that apply to the <br /> <br />12 <br /> <br /> <br />
