said, "Okay, I'll replace it." My
question is, had I done that now
with your new rates, would I have to
pay for that converter box burning
up?

Griffin stated that they can't charge customers for service calls,
only for blatant abuse to Scripps Howard's equipment. They don't
even charge people for cable or remotes that dogs have chewed. He
explained that Hornbostel would not be charged for the converter
box.

Hornbostel:

My main concern is, if you're not
taking care of your equipment and my
house burns down, as a result of it,
it's not a real cool thing. It
would be a good thing for us to know
how long that converter can last.
When is a good time for us to check
in?

Griffin stated that they've tried to replace them as the service
calls come in. They've done the phase-out in other areas. People
find it as an inconvenience to have to come in and return the
converter. He commented that they can try some form of accelerated
phase-out of those, because they do want to get those out of the
field.

Mayer was concerned about the time it takes to get your cable
buried after the cable has been installed. He stated that from
personal experience, a year wasn't uncommon in his area despite
repeated calls to get the cable buried.

Griffin:

We are very current to date. We pay
contractors every day to bury these
cables. Our procedure is that we go
out on installations, run the cable
on top of the ground, because we're
very busy right now. Each man is
probably from 10 to 12 per day.
We're trying to get to people within
a three to five day period. That
order is, then, brought into the
office with a drop area request,
which is given to our contractor,
usually within one or two days.
Then, it is issued into the field.
They're getting to 95% of the buries
within a one week period of time.
One of the biggest problems we have
in Colorado is in the winter. We
run into a situation where we can't

11
