MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
Continued from page 1
ing. I had all the expected DNA markers — Norwegian,
Scottish, Irish and Native American — but also much
more. I also have lots of markers that would originate
from the Iberian Peninsula, Basque markers, and more
Native American markers than you would expect from
my one known ancestor. As I said at the kickoff event, I
know a lot about my ancestors but apparently I'm related
to lots more people as well. The great thing about living
in America is that I don't have to go overseas to meet
these distant relatives -- they've come here as well.
The One Action Project is using arts and cultural
events to facilitate the immigration discussion. I hope
you take advantage of the opportunity to attend many of
these events. You can go to a showing of Motus Theater's
movie Rocks Karma Arrows about the early history of
Boulder from the point of view of Chief Niwot. This will
be shown in three parts at the Louisville Center for the
Arts. Or go see a discussion with the CU professor who
is a Bolivian Immigrant, now a physicist, and recipient
of a genius grant. These events will continue throughout
2016. The schedule can be found at One - Action.org. I
hope you'll attend and that thinking about immigration,
past and present, will help you "listen to all sides and
filter them" for or from yourself.
-Bob
YOUTH CORPS HIRING
FOR THE SUMMER
The Boulder County Youth Corps is gearing up
for its busy summer season, and the City of
Louisville Project Sponsors are planning projects for the
City's team to work on this summer!
The Youth Corps is now hiring teens ages 14 -17 to
fill 160 Corpsmember positions and adults for 34 Leader
openings to work all over Boulder County. The plans will use public input to identify the community's vision and goals for each area and transform
those visions and goals into development regulations. The regulations will include allowed land uses and building
forms, as well as desired infrastructure improvements and areas for public spaces like parks and plazas.
The South Boulder Road Plan is approaching completion — a draft plan based on all public input is being re-
viewed by the Planning Commission and the City Council in preparation for adoption. Keep a look out for upcom-
ing meetings for your opportunity to participate in the public hearings.
The McCaslin Boulevard Plan had its final community workshop in February to review design alternatives and
develop a preferred draft plan. The draft McCaslin plan will be presented to the Planning Commission and the City
Council for review and adoption starting in late spring or early summer.
Thank you to those who have participated in the process so far, both by attending meetings and contributing on-
line. Information about the projects can be found on the City web site at www.LouisvilleCO.gov. You can stay up to
date by following the Planning Department on twitter @Plan4Lsv1CO. Any questions or comments can be directed
to the project manager, Scott Robinson, at 303.335.4596 or ScottR @LouisvilleCO.gov.
We want to hear from you, so please participate.
March 2016
