Shonkwiler stated that their intent was to recreate the white
concrete wall that is at the Cherry/McCaslin area. It is not a
sign. In closing, he commented that this center will generate
about $1.6 million/year in retail sales tax revenue to the city.

Davidson closed the public hearing and called for Council comments.

Hornbostel wanted the height of the lighting reduced, more
landscaping in the front of Albertsons and on Lot 5 and 8, a
reduction in the monument signs, and a reworking of the internal
circulation of traffic in the traffic loop.

Hedding didn't like the signage height, the traffic loop, excessive
liqlhting, the cars backing into the interior loop, and felt the 3'
bel~s could be even higher. He didn't see how they could not have
the entrance off of McCaslin.

Mayer felt that the north row of parking should be removed and that
a pedestrian walkway between one of the diagonal bays would be
helpful with trees planted through there. He wanted conifer trees
added to the landscaping. He wished they could again review the
liqlhting and the pedestrian/bicycle access off of Dahlia. He
suggested that Council set up a meeting with the developer,
Planning Commission, and Council to review the plan and work out
the different concerns.

Susan Griffiths, City Attorney, stated that a meeting between the
City Council and the Planning Commission is not provided for in the
process, although, this item could be sent back to the Planning
Commission.

Shonkwiler asked Council to continue this until the December 7,
195.3, Council meeting.

Annette Brand, asked that this item be continued until December 14,
195.3, at a special Council meeting, giving more time to work out
the concerns.

Davidson stated that he was in favor of the Gateway design
guidelines being imposed on the entire Parcel O. He suggested
okaying the Albertson's development with those conditions applied
to the entire parcel, leaving it between Homart and city staff to
work out the details, so as not to delay Homart, Albertsons, or the
development going forward.

Hornbostel moved that Council continue this discussion until
December 9, 1993. Seconded by Hedding.

Mayer wondered if Councilman Howard would be able to vote at that
meeting.

6
