Historical Commission
Minutes
May 21 , 2008

6. Bridget Bacon requested information about the previous business
owners of the Union Jack Liquor building and other aspects of
Louisville history.
E. Pat Seader volunteered to help at the Museum when it is open on Saturday,
June 7th.
F. Over 450 copies of the Louisville Historian were distributed in early May.
G. Cemetery Master Plan/Veteran's Memorial
1. A public meeting was held to discuss ideas with City staff and consultant,
with attendance by Don Ross and others.
2. There was discussion at that meeting of whether the World War I
memorial should be moved to another part of the cemetery.
3. The City may be able to apply for grants or get donations from various
organizations.
H. Two architects have given rough estimates regarding the proposed building
for the space between the Jacoe Store and the Tomeo House at the
Museum. The cost would likely be approximately $200,000 for a two-story
building to be used for such purposes as storage of historical artifacts, office
space, and a public restroom. If the project is approved, aspects of the design
of the two-story house that was on that site in the early 1900s could
potentially be used in the design of a new building.

IX. Committee Reports
A. Facility Management
1. Alice Koerner gave an update on the Museum facilities. Estimates on
needed repairs and weatherization of the Museum buildings are still being
acquired.
2. The landscape plaque project is near completion and plaques will be
ordered and placed soon.
3. Garden clean up and maintenance will be done by the City.
B. Community Education
1. The Committee is interested in conducting oral history interviews of
Louisville residents, and decided that the priority is to conduct interviews
of WWII era veterans and families.
2. The Committee plans to set up an interview process. Bridget Bacon said
that she has information about WWII veterans from Louisville that she can
provide, and the Museum has authorization forms and other resources
relating to oral history interviews. A planning meeting is being
scheduled for July.
3. Information about the interviews will be placed in the Louisville Historian
and will be available at Louisville events this summer, and inquiries will be
made about also providing information in the Louisville Times and Senior
Center newsletter.
4. An additional idea being considered is to honor veterans at a dinner
sponsored by the Historical Commission and local organizations.
5. Other topics discussed at the Committee meeting included updating the
walking tour brochure, seeking the placement of information plaques on
downtown buildings, creating a Children's Day at the Museum and
creating "hands-on" exhibits for children, and working on other possible
projects in collaboration with the Events and Fundraising Committee.
