Make invitations to Congressional Staff to visit during the August recess
USDOT -look for opportunities to be part of the departing policy papers that
FTA or FHWA are developing for reauthorization.
Develop a draft bill in support of the US36 mobility improvennent project -
part of the continued campaign with the CO delegation to put US36 on the
"list" for funding.
o Draft a bill in conjunction with the MCC.
o Present the draft to the CO delegation to determine who would
introduce and cosponsor.
o Work with CO offices to develop a final draft for introduction
o This bill is a "marker" for reauthorization - to maintain support
leading into reauthorization.
• Forward news and relevant information regarding DC happeniings
Ju1y:
Congressional Summary
• July 4`h Recess (June 30`h -July 4`h) upon return from the recess, Congress will make a priority to move the
appropriations bills as far as possible. Unlike in years past where the House attempts to pass all 13
appropriations bills before they leave for the August Congressional Recess, this year it is expected that
Congress will move the 13 appropriations bills through only the Subcommittee and Full Committee -not to
Full House Floor consideration.
July work plan:
• Attend Congressional hearings that are relevant to reauthorization.
• Continue to look for bills and other opportunities for the MCC: to engage in
support of committee efforts:
o Letters of support or opposition (to the CO members or the
Committee leadership)
• Introduce "marker" legislation for US36 -House and Senate.
• Report on progress with reauthorization -what is the inside story.
• Follow-up on invitations made to Congressional staff for site visits during the
August recess and if interested begin to work out a schedule.
• Look for opportunities for the MCC to testify on the Hill at hearings that focus
on mobility solutions, TOD, transportation and the environment, etc.
• Presidential Campaigns -Transportation should be an issue far the Nominees.
Both Obama and Clinton have noted the importance of transportation
infrastructure to the economy and the impacts on the environment.
(Convention opportunities).
• Try to narrow the dates, times, and event for the Oberstar visit:.
• Are there others he could bring with him? - DeFazio or other 'T&I Members.
o Fundraiser?
• Forward news and relevant information regarding DC happeniings
11
