A
Congressional Summary
• Congressional recess and Convention. (August 4`h - September 5`h) August recess means that all Members
of Congress and their staffs leave Washington. This is the time that Members take to vacation and spend
time away from Washington meeting with constituents and conducting Congressional business like visiting
and being briefed on US 36.
August work plan:
• Finalize the Oberstar visit.
• Conduct Congressional staff visits
• Look for opportunities to meet with the CO Members along the Corridor -site
visit and briefings.
• Forward news and relevant information regarding DC happenings
September
Congressional Summary
• Congress returns from recess. This is the push before Congress takes a leave in order to campaign. Since
all House seats and 1/3`d of all Senate seats are up for election„ Washington will have great incentive to try
and get whatever they feel they can get done before leaving for the November elections. We anticipate that
Congress will work during September to complete the DefensE; Appropriations bill and any other
appropriations measure that they can get consensus on prior toy the end of the Federal Fiscal Year which
ends on September 315`.
September work plan:
• Resume working with CO offices for reauthorization request.
• Attend Congressional hearings that are relevant to reauthorization -look for an
opportunity for a member of the MCC be a witness?
• Committee staff will start putting together the bill -big picture provisions like
will they continue to fund projects of regional and national significance. What
other policy changes on highways or transit is Congress considering -inside
report back to the MCC.
• Determine, if possible, what the earmark request format and procedure may be
in 2009.
• CDOT may be preparing its reauthorization plans -ensure US36 still a priority
(MCC)
• Forward news and relevant information regarding DC happenings
October:
Congressional Summary
C
• We would expect that Members of Congress will be in their Districts campaigning during the month of
October. The best work will be done in Districts. To this end., we will want to meet with our federal
12
