Planning Commission for the normal review process
and to then return to Council with the Commission's
recommendations. It is Council's decision to refer
this matter to the Planning Commission or not.
Anderson asked Wanush to comment on the sign code in
general as to whether other updates would be in
order at this time. Wanush stated there could be
more clarity in some provisions.
Szymanski stated ghat he appreciates Mr. Mossoni's
request. However, it is opinion that there are
other alternatives to an announcement of new
business. Szymanski further stated that changing
the City's sign code to allow this would "open up a
bucket of worms" with regard to signage at a major
entrance to the City. "I am in favor of keeping our
sign code just they way it is and let Mr. Mossoni
advertise through the other local channels available
to all the other businesses in town."
Carnival asked when the sign code was last update.
Wanush stated that it was last done in 1981.
Carnival stated that he feels strongly that this
issue should be looked at. "This Council has always
taken a very positive approach to businesses coming
into the community, and I think this is an ideal
situation for us to enhance that even more." "I
would to see this at least go through the Planning
Commission to see if there are some changes that
need to made, not only with this particular sign,
but maybe in other areas..."
Mayor Fauson asked how STC's sign was allowed.
Wanush stated that it was done through the PUD
process which allows for enlarging a sign. However,
STC's sign is on their own property unlike this
request.
Hundley stated that looking at the sign code in
total would take a longer period of time for both
staff and the Commission. In order to have a timely
decision regarding the issue of the type of signage
Mr. Mossoni is requiesting, Hundley suggests that
this issue be looked at first and initiate a process
to review the City's entire sign code.
Carnival moved that this request be reviewed by the
Planning Commission and a complete review of the
City's sign code be initiated. Scarpella seconded.
Unanimous.
PUBLIC COMMENTS Scott Carlson, 11990 Grant Street, Northglenn,
addressed Council stating that he is not
representing anyone other than himself in commenting
5
