PRESENTATION BY DENVER REGIONAL COUNCIL OF
GOVERNMENTS (DRCOG) Ken Ellison of DRCOG presented an update regarding
the role of DRCOG .in the Denver Metro area and
their relationship with various communities in the
region. Mr. Ellison serves as Director of Local
Government Services for DRCOG and explained the
issues and priorities that are emerging in this
region including a~ transportation plan and a
statewide water supply plan.
DRCOG also supply direct services to citizens
serving as the area Agency for Aging and
designated by the Governor to provide services to
the aging populatior.~ in the Metro area dispersing
$2.5 million in federal funds in support of
various programs including nutrition,
transportation assistance, home health care, etc.
DRCOG estimates there will be 2.5 million people
in the Metro area ]by 2010 and are studying the
impact of that growth on the area as a whole and
particularly those cities on the perimeter of the
greater Denver area.
Mayor Fauson thanked Mr. Ellison for the
information.
PUBLIC SERVICES POLES Mayor Fauson stated that only those people who
signed cards to speak to this issue would be
allowed to talk as this was not a public hearing.
J.R. Gatlin, 1044 'W. Mr. Gatlin stated that he is seeking
funding from the City to bury these lines along
McCaslin Blvd. Mr. Gatlin feels this is a City
issue and not a neighborhood self-serving issue
because of the possible decrease in property
value, Louisville's reputation as having move-up
housing could be blE~mished, and the obstruction of
the view up on the Mesa. Mr. Gatlin felt there
was no attempt by t:he City, Public Service or the
County to contact the residents regarding the
installation of these powerlines. Mr. Gatlin
stated that there. were methods to allow for
funding for installing these lines underground and
that wasn't done. Mr. Gatlin asked that Council
consider funding thE~ project.
Steve Dziewit, 1095 W. Willow Street, stated that
he agreed with Mr. (~atlin's remarks and added that
there is no sound buffering for these homes along
McCaslin and that the right-of-way that does exist
3
