Mr. Huey explained that non-profit organizations
would sign-up for designated months and would
be responsible for the materials during that
period. Town and Country will maintain the
cleanliness of the area when necessary.
Mohr stated that the success of this program will
be getting the worst out to the community to
participate in the program by taking recyclable
items to the site. Mr. Huey stated that the
Chamber will advertise the program and the City
can put messages or.~ utility bills. The non-profit
groups will also participate in publicizing the
program as they will benefit by the resale of the
materials.
Mr. Huey stated that other states have adopted
this program and they have been successful. The
estimated funds (according to Wano Coors) on a
monthly basis for a non-profit group participating
in the program could easily be $300-$500.
Stahl stated that in structuring the program, it
should have participants from the City, the
Chamber and Town and Country to develop a
marketing plan. Prior to beginning the program,
there should be a commitment by enough non-profit
groups to implement the program for one year.
Mayor Fauson commended Mr. Huey for his
contribution in developing this program. "I think
this is another one of those efforts where the
private sector and ;public sector work together for
a successful program." "This is a win-win
situation for everybody."
Mr. Huey stated that everyone stands to benefit by
eliminating a good deal of solid waste. As a
result, dump bills will go down for haulers and
fees to the citizen:a will remain lower longer.
Mayor Fauson moved and Ferrera seconded to
authorize staff to work with the Chamber of
Commerce, Mr. Huey and other Community non-profit
groups to implement the Louisville Recycling
Program as proposed by Mr. Huey. The motion
passed unanimously.
ORDINANCE #965 - SERIES 1988 - CHAPMAN RIGHT--OF-WAY VACATION - PUBLIC
HEARING CONTINUED Ordinance 965, SeriE~s 1988, "An Ordinance vacating
a portion of an allesy located in Jefferson Place."
This is a continuation of the public hearing held
on September 6, 198E3 and staff is once again
asking that Council continue this Ordinance to the
4
