Mayor Fauson asked that any discussion regarding
this issue be held until the October 6th Meeting.
Mayor Fauson called for a vote on the motion. The
motion to continue 'the public hearing until October
6th, 1987, was approved unanimously.
RESOLUTION #23 - CHERRY STREET TECHNICAL PARK - SUBDIVISION
AND PUD Rautenstraus read in its entirety Resolution #23, "A
Resolution approving a final plat and PUD for Cherry
Street Technical Park."
Wanush stated that 'the applicant is requesting that
a 2 acre parcel recently annexed to the City located
at 8330 Cherry Street be subdivided into 2 lots of
approximately 1 acre each. A PUD is then requested
for the parcel on Cherry Street to place a rental
center. A rental cE~nter is a Special Review Use in
a CB zone. The Planning Commission reviewed this on
September 8, 1987, and recommends approval. Wanush
stated that of greai~est concern to the Commission on
the PUD was the screening of the storage yard. In
front there will be a 3 ft. berm with very heavy
plantings and on the' eastern side, there will be a
chain link fence with heavy plantings. The
Commission felt that plantings were sufficient for
screening and if for any reason the plantings were
not being maintain, the Commission could call the
Special Review Use in for review.
Don Shonkwiler, President of Land Development Group,
Inc. and applicant, introduced the people who will
be building the reni~al center, Rob and Carol Lathrop
who currently own the Rental Center in Louisville.
Anderson stated than he has concerns regarding the
appropriateness of i~his kind of operation in that
neighborhood in than zone. Gas tanks, pumps, moving
vans, miscellaneous vehicles, etc. all need to be
screened visually. Anderson feels that the
screening specified in the plan won't be sufficient.
Mr. Lathrop stated i:hat the lot will allow the
center to be designed so that it is not readily
visible to the public. There is little develop-
ment of the surrounding area and what is anticipated
at this point is primarily commercially oriented.
Worked into the design of the center is the
shielding of the opE~ration and the construction of a
nice building making it as compatible and as
pleasant in appearance as possible. The landscape
screening is more n<~tural in appearance and will
provide adequate screening.
7
