Sackett also voiced concerns regarding the landscape
screening of the center, especially along the east
side. Sackett preferred a wooden barrier (fence)
plus landscaping at, least part of the way down the
east side of the center as it would provide
immediate visual screening, whereas plantings will
take time to grow and fill in. "We don't know
what's going to be on the east side and I am
concerned about the view that people are going to
have in the residential area....I think it is a
good use for the property and it looks like it is
professionally done,. But I want to make sure that
we save the integrity of the neighborhood at the
same time."
Sackett moved that the Resolution be approved with
the amendment that :From the north side of the
storage yard to the point at which that storage yard
meets the building, both a wooden fence and
landscaping would be done.
Mayor Fauson questioned the need to use both a
wooden fence on one side and chain link on the
remainder of the sides.
Mohr stated that this proposal seems to be consis-
tent with the guidelines adopted regarding stan-
dards for buildings, fences, sites, etc. and
doesn't understand l3ackett's reasoning regarding
the wooden fence and what it would accomplish that
the living screen couldn't provide if appro-
priately done. "It seems to me we have put these
gentlemen's feet to the fire to the point where
they've got the mes:~age that we expect a living
screen to be appropriately done and I hear a
commitment coming from them in that regard...."
Sackett stated that he feels the living screen will
work, however, it wall work better 10 years from
now. In the meantirne, a wooden fence would screen
the area and provide a nice backdrop for the
landscaping outlined.
Mayor Fauson seconded the motion Sackett proposed.
By Roll Call Vote the motion was defeated 5-1 with
Sackett voting yes.
Mohr moved that Resolution #23 be approved as pre-
sented.
