School and Centaurus High School. 236 students
were surveyed (13~ of the student bodies of these
schools) and the results were presented to
Council. McLallen stated that the Committee
concluded that the majority of teens desired a
teen center as well ~s teens' parents.
McLallen urged that Council give the issue of a
teen center immediate attention as it is apparent
that this is a need in these two communities.
Other interested parents and Sandy Stalter„
representative of the Optimist Club, spoke to
Council on the issue urging their support.
McLallen stated that Longmont has had great
success with their teen center and is run by the
City of Longmont. Part of the funding for the
center comes from renting part of the facility to
the Teen Job Program, Federal and County programs
for teens, the Mental Health Center for counseling
teens, etc.
Mayor Fauson thanked the Committee for their
efforts and assured them that this Council would
look seriously into the facts presented.
Anderson asked that the matter of sanctioning be
looked into by the City Attorney to see if it has
any consequence either for the City or the L/L
Teen Center Committee.
ORDINANCE #922 - E911 EMERGENCY TELEPHONE SERVICE SYSTEM -
PUBLIC HEARING Rautenstraus read by title only Ordinance #922,
"An Ordinance imposing an emergency telephone
charge upon telephone exchange access facilities
within the City of Louisville; authorizing service
suppliers to collect said emergency telephone
changes; and authorizing the Mayor to sign an
Intergovernmental Agreement creating an Emergency
Telephone Service Authority in order to establish
and operate an emergency telephone system in the
City of Louisville." Proper publication and
notice of public hearing were established.
Mayor Fauson opened the public hearing.
Leesman stated that this was discussed at a
Council Work Session and at the first reading of
the Ordinance and recommended Council approval.
Mayor Fauson asked for anyone wishing to speak
either in favor of or in opposition to Ordinance
#922.
