Paul Brown preser.~ted the proposed development to
Council showing three primary categories:
1) institutional - the applicants are working
toward providing a 60 acre site for two different
facilities, the Academy for the National Institute
of Corrections anti the Boulder County Correctional
Facility.
2) 73 acres of open space - may be developed at
a later date as a golf course and/or bike paths.
3) 100 acres of residential, 1 1/2 acres per
unit.
Mr. Brown detai lead the proposed location and the
type of facility :Boulder County is planning for a
corrections center stating that it will be secure,
attractive and would eventually create jobs in
Louisville.
The National Institute of Corrections has been
located in Boulder, Colorado and has been
conducting a search to change its location to
another part of the country, according to Brown,
as Boulder was a temporary site. The institute
brings in approximately 3,000 people annually for
training and has :been a very prestigious facility
for Boulder County and according to Brown there is
an excellent opportunity for Boulder County to be
chosen as a permanent location. In Brown's
opinion, this site is Boulder County's only hope
in keeping the .institute here. Although the
details are a long way from being worked out, the
land owners and t:he Boulder County Commissioners
are working together to get this land donated to
the National Institute of Corrections as an
incentive to build in Boulder County.
A preliminary proposal must be submitted to the
National Institute of Corrections by July 26, 1985
and they will select 4-5 propective sites
throughout the country.
The Corrections'. Facility and the National
Institute of Corrections are not contingent on one
another in any wa.y. However, Brown's opinion is
that they would compliment each other. The
corrections facility would house approximately 250
residents.
Brown asked Coun<:i 1 to approve ref erra 1 to the
Planning Commission for further study of this
proposed annexation.
3
