PROCLAIyIATION - WORLD
FOOD DAY Mayor Meier read a proclamation proclaiming
October 16-21, 1985, to be "Take a Bite Out of
Hunger! Days" in Louisville.
APPOINTMENT OF COUNCILMEMBER
TO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE Hundley informed Council that the Chamber has
hired an Executive Director to head up the funding
of a joint economic and business development
program far the City of Louisville. Council should
consider an immediate appointment to the Board to
assist in setting an economic development agenda
for 1986. Hundley introduced Steve Anderson,
President of the Chamber of Commerce, for an
update.
Mr. Anderson introduced the Executive Director
who was hired as a joint effort between the City
of Louisville and the Chamber of Commerce. Mr.
John Wilken will serve as the Executive Director
with a substantia]_ background in economical
development.
Mayor Meier asked for nominations of a
Councilmember to serve on the Executive Board of
the Louisville Chamber of Commerce until January,
1986. Cussen moved that Rick Luce be appointed to
the Executive Board. Morris seconded.
Fauson related that at a previous Council Meeting
he asked for an endorsement from Council to apply
for a vacancy on CML. "At that time it was stated
by a Councilmember that we should not be making
any appointments at this time be it political or
whatever and it seems to me at that time, the
majority of Council went along with that
statement. I was just wondering how that still
faired tonight and I was just wondering if Susan
Morris would comment on that at this time," stated
Fauson.
Morris: "I would be happy to. I think an
endorsement for CML which is a long term
appointment is very, very different than an
appointment until. January." "If we were looking
to appoint someone to the Chamber for more than a
term of until January, I would be as opposed to
that as I was to your endorsement."
Luce: As a matter of philosophy, it seems to me
that the individual that is nominated is somebody
who needs to haves a close liaison between the
Chamber group and the Council. In that regard, it
WOUla be apprOpr~iaS 2 k foz the Councilidual be
Some~pa,~ who can P
3
