SUBJECT:
DATE:
SPECIAL EVENT 2016 RECAP
SEPTEMBER 13, 2016
PAGE2OF2
Staff is expecting two event permits for large events still in 2016, one for the Turkey Trot
and one for the Parade of Lights. Of the 2016 events, almost all of them were returning
events, only two were new. The Project Louisville Movies in the Park did not return this
year which opened up some additional spots in Community Park for larger events.
In this same time period, park rentals were running roughly on par with 2015.
In general, complaints were down significantly for the year. That said, the bulk of all
events are still in the Community Park/Downtown area and we hear from a few
residents they feel they get most of the event impact in town.
Based on Council discussion in October, staff is not limiting competing events. Due to
limited staff time, a formal event scorecard/evaluation and the noise ordinance have yet
to be introduced. A noise ordinance will be discussed with Council at a Study Session in
November.
At this time staff is comfortable with the event permitting process as it currently stands.
Event numbers have leveled out and complaints are down. Staff does not recommend
any changes for 2017.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None
RECOMMENDATION:
Discussion
ATTACHMENT(S):
1. 2016 Special Event Permit Application
CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
9
