center, library, parks, open space, bike and walking trails, and a youth program that is envied by all surrounding communities. We have increased our sales tax revenue from $800,000 in 1986 to over 1.8 million in 1991 with a 12.8% increase of sales tax revenue over 1990. Our local banks continue to grow and some have shown growth as high as 19% in deposits this past year. Our well known community activities continue to break attendance records. With over 600 volunteers, from children singing, business people roasting chestnuts, to Santa Claus, that volunteered their time in the 1991 Parade of Lights to make it the event of the year. Why and how did all of this happen? We believe it happened because of the cooperative effort of the City, the Chamber, our local schools, hundreds and hundreds of Chamber volunteers, City fraternal and non-profit organizations and a multitude of citizens who believe that Louisville is the greatest place to live, work and to raise their families. We, the Chamber of Commerce, are ready and willing to continue to work in a cooperative effort with the City and with the newly appointed Economic Development Committee in 1992. We do feel, however, that since the 1992 funding proposals that we submitted to the City and to the County have been accepted in their 1992 Budgets and that in order for us to plan a productive program for 1992, we feel that both the City and the County agreements should stay in effect for the 1992 fiscal year. We also suggest that the City and the Chamber must then work very closely together on whatever proposed economic development programs we come up with. Evaluate each one of the programs as we progress through the year and make necessary changes and budget adjustments. Then, again, at years end, together, we 24
