Policy NE-2.2: The City will encourage the use of recyclable building <br />materials and building materials with recycled content in new development, <br />redevelopment and in municipal operations. <br />Policy NE-2.3: The City will encourage building designs that maximize the <br />use of natural light and thu;> diminish the need for energy consuming <br />supplemental lighting. <br />Policy NE-2.4: The City will encourage the use of landscaping that assists <br />energy savings by the use of buffers and admittance of solar energy in the <br />winter and shade in the summer. It will insist on designs that minimize the <br />need for supplemental irrigation by encouraging the use of drought-resistant <br />and native species. <br />Policy NE-2.5: In recognition of the need for alternative energy <br />development, the City will encourage the protection of solar access in new <br />development and redevelopment and give preference to street and lot <br />arrangements that allow for maximum use of solar energy. <br />Policy NE-2.6: The City will allow for the use of greywater once safe re-use <br />methods are established. <br />Policy NE-2.7: The City will Encourage commercial building designs that <br />make use of stormwater as supplemental irrigation. <br />Principle NE-3: Promote water and Energy conservation. <br />Policy NE-3.1 (ex 3.4): The City will promote water conservation through <br />educational and regulatory means. <br />Policy NE-3.2 (ex 3.1 ): The City will maintain baseline water restrictions as <br />outlined in its Drought Management Plan that prohibit excessive landscape <br />irrigation. <br />Policy NE-3.3 (ex 3.2): The City will strive to reduce municipal government <br />water and energy usage and promote its conservation as an example for <br />residents. <br />Policy NE-3.4 (ex 3.5): The City will continue incentive and rebate <br />programs that encourage water conservation. <br />Policy NE-3.5 (ex 3.3): The City will reduce its dependency on non- <br />renewable energy sources by pursuing the use of renewable energy <br />sources for residents and businesses as well as for its municipal operations. <br />Principle NE-4: Protect and enhancE: surface water quality. <br />
