building and will provide buffering.
The immensity and awesome character
of Davidson Mesa will provide the
kind of screening and context that I
think is appropriate for a building
of this size and scale.

Hornbostel:

When you were talking about the
ditch, did you mean it would go on
the south side of Phase I or the
south side of Phase II?

Shonkwiler:

South side of Phase II.

Mayer:

My concern would be with the
Cottonwoods over long term. Being
in a windy area with Cottonwoods
being somewhat weak, they all tend
to die at once. Is there a
possibility of mixing in a few other
trees, so over time there is a
little variation?

Shonkwiler:

We've chosen a different species of
Cottonwood than is normally used
around here. The normal Cottonwood
you see around here is a (INAUDIBLE)
Cottonwood, which is a very large or
broad leaf, which is very
susceptible to snow, wind, every
other bad thing that happens to a
tree. We've selected the
Acuminata, which are the Lanceleaf
Cottonwoods (a narrow leafed
Cottonwood). They are the trees
that we've planted as backdrop in
the landscaped area that we've done
in Centennial Parkway to date. They
are a much more formal and handsome
tree, with a more tulip like shape,
but with the smaller leaves, they're
less susceptible to snow and damage.
They are also much less common.

Mayer:

On the mechanical on the top of the
building, some people on the top of
Davidson Mesa have expressed a
concern that all they'll be doing is
looking down on air conditioning
systems. Do you know how say people
from the Summit, or the Enclave,
etc., will be affected.

15
