regulations and a list of producers:
http://www.colorado.uov/cs/Satellite/aa Conservation/CBON/1251625424345.
Mulch must be applied evenly at a rate of 3000 to 4000 lbs. per acre over the seeded areas.
Hay or straw may be crimped in or sprayed with a tackifier according to the project plans.
Guara gum tackifier is recommended.
B. Wood fiber hydromulch with guara gum tackifier: A standard rate of 3000 lbs. per acre
of hydromulch and 80 lbs. per acre of guara gum tackifier will be appropriate for most
projects unless otherwise specified on the project plans. The Grantee shall spray apply the
slurry of wood fiber mulch according to the manufacture's specifications in a uniform
manner over the designated seeded areas. Seed shall not be applied simultaneously with
hydro -mulch slurry.
For slopes that are 3:1 or steeper, Grantee shall instead use mulching methods C -E:
1. C. Where overland water flow is likely, jute netting shall be used. Netting shall contain
only biodegradable non -plastic, non -nylon fibers. Bonded fiber matrix hydromulch, such as
Soil Guard®, may be applied over jute netting for extra protection. In other areas with 3:1
slopes or steeper, erosion control blankets must be applied according to the manufacturer's
specifications. Blankets shall consist of a machine -produced mat of 100% biodegradable
materials, including the netting, and may include curled wood excelsior, or a combination of
straw (certified weed free) and coconut fibers. Photo -degradable polypropylene (plastic)
netting is not acceptable. Mats must be designed for erosion control on 2:1 slopes and must
be able to handle moderate water velocities of at least 7 ft./sec. Erosion blankets must have a
functional longevity of two years.
D. Bonded Fiber Matrix Hydromulch (instead of hay, straw or wood mulch), such as the Soil
Guard® brand from Mat Inc., or a similar product of equal capability shall be used. Bonded
fiber matrix hydromulch shall be applied by a manufacturer -certified applicator (who must
provide proof of certification to apply the product) at a minimum of 3,200 lbs. per acre
according to manufacturer's specifications. The bonded fiber matrix shall be applied in
successive layers to achieve 100% coverage of all soils, and the matrix shall have no holes
greater than lmm. Two -angle application shall be strictly required. The bonded fiber matrix
shall not be applied immediately before, during or after rainfall, so the matrix will have an
opportunity to dry for up to 24 hours after installation.
Weed Monitoring, Control
The Grantee will monitor all revegetated areas during the post -reclamation period to determine
the need for weed control measures and to ensure that implementation will be accomplished in a
timely manner.
To prevent damage to young seedlings, no herbicides will be used through the first growing
season following seeding. Exceptions may be requested of the Primary Contact. Reclaimed areas
with slopes not exceeding 4:1 will be mowed to prevent flowering and weed seed development.
Callahan Open Space Access and Utility Easement 20
