City Council
Meeting Minutes
July 5, 2017
Council member Loo felt this was a partisan resolution She felt the City had stayed
away from partisan activities and encouraged the Council to reaffirm what they had
accomplished but did not support this resolution She spoke of an article she had
provided from the Wall Street Journal where a researcher was drummed out of his
profession for his views on climate research
Council member Leh appreciated Council member Loo's comments. He felt the
resolution presented by Mayor Pro Tem Lipton encompassed a Louisville view and he
felt he could support that Residents seem to support this type of resolution and many
are involved in climate science He noted resolutions are aspirational documents and
this encourages volunteering by citizens and businesses to do their part
Council member Keany appreciated the alternative resolution but suggested leaving out
reference to the Pans Climate Agreement. He found sustainability important but found
the Paris Climate Agreement too political Mayor Muckle supported leaving in reference
to the Paris Climate Agreement.
Mayor Muckle moved Council approve Resolution No. 34, Series 2017 as presented by
Mayor Pro Tem Lipton Council member Stolzmann seconded Voice vote 5-2 with
Council member Keany and Council member Loo voting no
DISCUSSION/DIRECTION/ACTION — CITY-WIDE WAYFINDING PLAN
Director Zuccaro noted this was follow-up concerning the City -Wide Wayfinding Plan
The signs were developed as a part of the small area plan process There was
community input; the designs were narrowed down to three options and a final design
being proposed with a phased rollout The budget item for approximately $140,000 is for
installation of the first phase of the signs. Council asked for a mockup to be placed at
one of the entryways to review the size and Iettenng.
On May 24th staff installed a mockup sign at US36 and McCaslin. City Council and
members of the community had the opportunity to drive by the sign and provide input
Some mockup directional signs were also placed. US 36 bikeway directional signs are
also proposed. Mock ups were available to view
Four options were available with 2 including the bikeway signs and 2 without Council
had indicated they preferred Option 4 with entry signs and US 36 bikeway signs
Some of the input received was the sign was small and difficult to read More analysis
showed the current 4 inch tall letters are likely too small for legibility 15 inch high
letters would have the most impact.
Staff recommends Council approve one of the proposed Phase 1 options to allow
implementation of the preferred sign package.
