Library Board of Trustees
Meeting Minutes—DRAFT
May 11, 2017
3) Library Foundation liaison report (R. Gurganus)
The Library Foundation has not had a meeting, and there was no report. The next meeting of
the Foundation is on May 23, 2017, and Renee will provide an update at the Board's July
meeting.
4) Discussion of the LBOT/Foundation joint meeting
Jeannie asked for comments about the meeting in March with the Library Foundation. The
consensus was that it was a very beneficial meeting with a lot of positive energy, important
information about the roles of each organization, and it also provided a good foundation for
working together on outreach projects.
5) Outreach
1) Superior, Kestrel
The Board packet included a flyer that had been distributed to Superior residents through
the Chamber of Commerce `Rooftop Drop' program.
Also included was a two-sided information sheet being provided to new residents of
Louisville's new Kestrel housing development. As a means to help track the outreach
efforts to this community, a special library card application was also included with the
Kestrel packets.
Ashley noted that a similar effort could be made to any new developments in Superior.
Sandie agreed.
2) Realtors
As a means to develop Library awareness and obtain sponsorship for the Read, Baby,
Read (RBR) program Jeannie suggested that local realtors could be a good resource.
Jeannie made a list of realtors and suggested that Board members select some companies
to contact.
The Board discussed this possibility and determined that a subcommittee was needed to
develop a plan and appropriate materials to present to realtors. Jeannie asked for
volunteers for this committee and Helana and Conor agreed to participate. Jeannie will
also be on the committee, and Superior resident Daryl McCool volunteered to provide a
contact name/introduction for Stauffer Realty.
3) Superior ChiliFest
The Board agreed that they would have a presence at the ChiliFest, which takes place on
September 9, 2017. Discussion on this topic will be continued to the July meeting.
Daryl McCool, Superior resident and member of the Superior Cultural Arts a Public Spaces
(CAPS) Committee, also mentioned the Town's `Parties in the Park' event as an
opportunity for outreach. The event, which will take place on June 10 from 3-5pm, is
held at six parks in Superior. Renee and Sherri volunteered to participate as long as any
associated costs can be covered. If the Board does participate, the focus will be on
Summer Reading Program sign-ups. If possible, they will also coordinate a used book sale
with the Louisville Library Foundation.
