City Council <br />Meeting Minutes <br />April 1, 2008 <br />Page 4 of 12 <br />MARCH ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT UPDATE <br />Becky Hogan, EDge Consulting <br />Becky Hogan of EDge Consulting, 56 Steele Street, Denver, CO gave the <br />monthly update of the March Economic Development. She introduced former <br />City Councilor Jay Keany, wrio is the President of the Downtown Business <br />Association (DBA). <br />Mr. Keany reported that Fortune Small Business magazine named Louisville as <br />the 26th best place in the country for small businesses. The Yellow Scene <br />highlighted Louisville as one Hof the "Best in the West" for critic's picks and <br />readers choices. The City is named 17 times in the magazine in different <br />categories including best downtown. He announced that the next DBA general <br />membership meeting would k~e at the Waterloo Ice House at 8:00 AM on April 2. <br />Ms. Hogan highlighted March's activities including the business retention <br />program; a proposed CEO Forum; recruitment efforts; arrangements for <br />International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC); and marketing Louisville. She <br />announced a Business Assis1tance Package (BAP) - Project Jonah, will be <br />brought before Council at the next meeting. <br />Councilor Muckle asked if they agreements for a school on South Boulder Road <br />and Gaiam had been finalized. Ms. Hogan responded no. <br />Councilor Muckle suggested initiating a dialogue with the Boulder Valley Hockey <br />Association. They will be moving out of Superior and are looking for a new <br />location. Ms. Hogan noted former Councilors Don Brown and Arnie Levihn have <br />been involved in discussions with the Boulder Valley Hockey Association for 18 <br />months. She explained the reuse of an ice rink space can be problematic for a <br />developer. <br />Councilor Sackett noted the State Farm site is showing evidence of the remodel <br />and asked if any business has committed to the site. Ms. Hogan stated Qdoba <br />and a barbeque restaurant are interested in leasing space and the property <br />owners report they have received good response on leasing retail space. <br />ORDINANCE No. 1531, SERIES 2008 - AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING <br />CERTAIN PROPERTY AS BEING REQUIRED FOR THE PUBLIC USE FOR <br />THE DILLON ROAD PROJECT AND AUTHORIZING THE ACQUISTION <br />THEREOF THROUGH NEGOTIATION AND/OR CONDEMNATION -Public <br />Hearing <br />Mayor Sisk requested a City Attorney presentation. <br />City Attorney Light read Ordinance No. 1531, Series 2008. <br />
