City Council <br />Meeting Minutes <br />June 17, 2008 <br />Page 4 of 14 <br />Mayor Sisk explained the US 36 Preferred Alternative Committee (PAC) has <br />been meeting since January of 2008 to respond to public comments in the US 36 <br />Draft Environmental Impact StatemE;nt (EIS). Once consensus on the US 36 <br />transportation improvements is reached, the committee will select a combination <br />of elements, which will minimize cornmunity and environmental impacts while <br />achieving long-term transportation needs. Further analysis is needed to test the <br />Combined Alternative and to define phases of construction based upon available <br />funding. The US 36 Coalition is very pleased to have achieved this important <br />step to further progress towards building improvements to the US 36 corridor. <br />The US 36 PAC requested the memibers sign the resolution in support of the <br />Combined Alternative. <br />Mayor Sisk voiced his appreciation to Assistant City Manager Heather Balser for <br />her work on the project and requested she review the highlights of the <br />recommendations. <br />Assistant City Manager Balser outlinied the components of the US 36 Preferred <br />Alternative Committee Recommendation. <br />• Transit -Ramp and side loathing stations supported by parking facilities <br />and local transit services with components to support Bus Rapid Transit. <br />• Multimodal -One buffer-separated managed lane in each direction of US <br />36 from Pecos Street to TabIE~ Mesa. <br />• Highway -Ramp-to-Ramp auxiliary lanes for most segments of US 36 <br />from McCaslin Boulevard to I~-25. One new continuous eastbound <br />general-purpose lane from Sheridan Boulevard to I-25. One new climbing <br />lane in each direction of US 36 to the top of Davidson Mesa. <br />• Bikeway -Adopt west-end corridor alignment US 36 Bikeway Option. <br />Assistant City Manager Balser noted the important issues to Louisville are <br />addressed in the additional analysis,. <br />• Evaluate and consider impacts of the combined alternative on local <br />arterials. <br />• Evaluate the benefit, cost anti impacts of 88th Street drop ramps to the <br />managed lanes and local roads to improve access to and from Louisville <br />and Superior. <br />• Evaluate extension of climbing lanes on US 36 between McCaslin <br />Boulevard and Table Mesa to bus-only lanes. <br />• Continue to look at phasing. <br />COUNCIL COMMENT <br />
