The signal must
bE~ set back 150' from. the intersection so
the children would have to walk across
Washington, walk to the west 150', across
the street and then back to Washington to
continue southward to the school.
Councilman Luce inquired - is it anticipated
then. that there would be another pedestrian
activated crossing light further to the
west that would pick up some of the Con-
tinental View. subdivision?
Mr•. Wurl replied - no, what is anticipated
is that they would walk along the north side
of the street and cross at this crossing.
Sometime in the future signalization would
be placed at the intersection of Washington
St.
Director Kasch stated that according to
estimated projected population figures full
signalization at Washington St. probably
would not be warranted for another 4 years.
The reason for the pedestrain signal being
placed east of Washington St. was that it
was almost dead center between Continental
View, Mesa Point, and the future build out
at Hunter's Ridge and Ponderosa. At the
time that full signalization is made at
Washington 5t. the pedestrian crossing would
be eliminated and located at a different site
where it is needed.
Councilwoman Morris Stated that she did not favor the pedestrian
signal east of Washington St. She further
stated the reality right now is that the
children are going to walk directly across
South Boulder Road underneath the power lines.
Mrs. Morris favored further study on the
South Boulder Road pedestrian crossing before
calling for bids. She also commented that
some people had asked if it would be possible
on the corners on Kenneday or Washington St.
particularly that on the end of each street
on Washington to have the curb angled down
fo:r the bicycle traffic so that children
wi:11 be encouraged to ride their bikes on
the=_ sidewalkss opposed to in the streets.
ShE, also suggested crossing guards at the
he<~vy crossing times and would like to have
this studied.
