1/17/84 Page -3-
Yet the requests amounted to approximately
50 t.o 60 million dollars. Therefore, the
criteria and competition is very stiff.
If council wished him to proceed with the
application he would do so. The Mayor must
be authorized to sign the application and
it must be in by the first of February. If
council does not wish to do so, we will not
submit the application. Part of the applica-
tion requirement was that you have to pro-
vidE~ an opportunity for public imput or
citizen participation through a public noti-
fication and this was done through the
Louisville Times last week.,
David Vawter, 754 W. Aspen Way
Started that he had 3 questions he wished
addressed. Commented that today he went
to Mr. Rupp's office and talked with his
sec:retary and she told him that the proposed
site, which is 5 acres, they were planning
on ~usina only 2Z acres for the project for
the elderly. The other 2Z acres to be used
by the Fire Department, eventually when we
do :need that on that end of the Citv.
The second question - once the City is given
the money can HUD come back to you and request
that you only use that money for low income
housing and not specifically for elderly?
The third question - this parcel of land
that is being considered has very poor
access to what the elderly are Going to need,
i.e, to be able to walk to convenient sopping,
to a Medical Center. It is quite a distance
from that and even under the new proposed
Hom~art plan, those facilities are not close
to this project either. These are some things
that he felt the City Council should address
when they look at this application.
A1~>o, it was his understanding that HUD had
been accepting applications since November
23,, 1983 and he wanted to know why we are
waiting so long to present the application
when the due date is February first.
Mayor Meier continued the public hearing and
as}ced if there were any more public comments
four or against the application. None.
Any public questions. None
Mayor Meier requested that Mr. Rupp address
Mr. Vawter's Questions.
