1/1'7/84 Page -6-
Size of the Project
~vumber of Units Proposed
AUTHORIZATION FOR MAYOR TO
'IGN APPLICATION
There are a number of things that go into
the application process. We also have to
demonstrate that there is a need, and that
the people that we are trying to provide
the housing for do meet the fixed income,
as do the elderly. Also that we are not
just placing people; that we have a need;
and these people have qualified, etc. This
goes into a rating system and we are given
points. The City of Louisville has to appear
before the State to support our application.
We did that last year, however we were't
successful because the downtown facilities
for parking was not viewed to be a high
priority for distribution of funds. They
also review our management capability. Do
we have projects like this in the City? Is
the City supportive of these kinds of efforts,
etc.? If the application is approved then
later the City Housing Authority would go
out and get someone to build the units.
Councilman Woodson wished verification that
the project would only take one-half the area.
Rupp advised for the whole site of 5 acres.
Councilwoman Johnson inquired how many units
were proposed for area and how would we avoid
the situation with the existing Heritage resi-
dents like we did earlier in the year with
Heritage residents farther south and Westfield?
Stated that she had received a call earlier
this evening questioning that.
Director Rupp advised that the City as the
Housing Authority would present the plan to
the: City Council and Planning Commission and
at that time there would be another public
heairing. Rupp stated in all possibility the
units would be single story, one bedroom units
that would be proposed because elderly can't
necrotiate stairs, etc. Further stated to
thE~ number of proposed units, would like to
do a project similiar to Regal Square which
is 30 units, and that project is on a much
smaller site as opposed to this one so this
project would have much more open area.
Mayor Meier closed the public hearing.
Councilman Leary moved, Councilman Cussen
seconded that the Mayor be authorized to sign
thf~ application and it be sent to the State.
