Three
pac}ages would, be available- they consist of
the basic service along with 3 pay services
called the Rainbow package. Rainbow Plus is
the basic service plus 5 pay services, and
Rainbow Gold is basic service plus 7 pay ser-
vicE~s. The method of pricing these packages
is i~he basic package is $7.50, each premium
or pay service costs $8.00 - the ala carte
price is $9.00 each premium. The Rainbow
package is $31..50 with a remote control for
which there is no charge. It is $31.50 per
monith if a service is chosen other than Disney
which costs $1.00 more in the Rainbow package.
$31.50 and less Disney includes Showtime, HBO,
and one other premium and the basic service.
Rainbow Plus will cost $47.50, and the Rain-
bow Gold is $63.50. During the next 2 weeks
the installation will be offered free as well
as the remote control for those in the package.
Prices in Lafayette versus A gentleman in the audience inquired why the
Louisville price for the Rainbow Gold was $49.00 in
Lafayette and $63.50 in Louisville.
Mr. Lyons advised that the prices in Lafayette
are: the result of a competitive franchising
process that it is a new system. He further
explained that there were 4 companies compet-
ing~ for the franchise in Lafayette, then
finally three. In the franchising process
the' cable operatiors always shave their
prices for the first two years to make it
more attractive and to gain the franchise.
Mayor Meier Advised that this was a public meeting, but
Reprimanded Audience mu:~t be held orderly not just everyone shout-
ing out questions. Urged the people in the
audience to dispense with their questions
in all fairness to the representatives until
their presentation had been completed. Booing
hi:~sing, and groaning was uncalled for by
grown-ups; requested that everyone conduct
thE~mselves accordingly. The representatives
did not hiss and boo at their remarks so re-
quested that they be extended the same courtesy.
