1/3/84 <br />Page - 8 - <br />There would be no charge for this service <br />to ~>cramble and then turn it back on. <br />Instructions on Converters Mr. Ferguson stated that some representa- <br />and Remote controls tives of Scripps/Howard will be going to <br />eacYi of their subscribers, as well as non- <br />sub:~ribers, during the next two weeks to <br />exp]Lain how the converter works - how the <br />remote control works - the options available; <br />the pricing, the packages, etc. <br />Lady from the Audience Addressed her question to Councilmembers and <br />the City Attorney - was there any legal reason <br />why we have to keep Scripps/Howard or can we <br />bid for another Cable Co. that would offer <br />beti:er and more services? <br />Attorney Rautenstraus advised that they have <br />a non-exclusive permit which means that other <br />cab_1e companies would be allowed to come in. <br />Service Available A gentleman in the audience remarked that <br />there people made up their mind what kind of <br />service we are going to be getting tomorrow <br />regardless of what is being said tonight. <br />It :looked to him that it was dictatorship <br />and thought they should change these things <br />over after all complaints are voiced. <br />Bill Bradley Inquired what was their front end and if they <br />have the capabilities of programming in for <br />their subscribers different channels on and <br />off the air - why are we now paying $10.00 <br />as 'we did before when there was man time <br />put into it and service based on the truck. <br />The price is the same the manual effort is <br />different. <br />Mr. Dagenois stated that the head end is lo= <br />Gated at 1055 East Lafayette in Louisville, <br />and has been totally rebuilt. It is capable <br />of the scrambling which is the latest thing <br />on the cable market. The computer system <br />is Texas Instrument. <br />In answer to the question if Scripps/Howard <br />would be monitoring what each subsriber <br />watched, he replied definitely not - did not <br />have the capability to do this. <br />Mr. Dagenois stated that they had the capabil- <br />ity to broadcast council meetings and it was <br />possible the next one would be shown. <br />
