David Holm, 2012 Mapleton St.
Lder
Letter to be sent to
Colorado Mined Land
Reclamation Division
PROGRESS REPORT
BOULDER ROAD -
ENGINEERING
12/4/84 Page -14-
Mr. Holm stated that he was in charge of
the inactive mine reclamation program. The
program is funded by fees that coal companies
pay and the purpose of the program is to
dea:L with the hazards and enviornmental
problems that were brought about by past
mining acitivities. They have worked on
approximately 150 coal mine sites and have
dea]Lt with underground mine fires, sealed
shaj:ts, etc. They have also faced up to
mine: subsidence by mapping on USGS topo-
graphic maps and focused on the front range.
This is where the hazard is - where you have
surface development and undermined conditic. ~: ; ,
He then provided Council with maps of mine:-
on ai county by county basis. Mr. Holm
described in detail what the program has
been doing relative to drilling investigati~d~s
to find out the hazardous areas, as well
as ~~tudies that are done on public thorough--
fare:s to update their maps so that should
development occur there is more information
available. Mr. Holm stated that Lloyds of
London was the only insurance company that
covered mine subsidence and it was very ex-
pensive. He stated that he would estimate
there were approximately 10 subsidence events
a year in the state of Colorado. Most of the
damage has not been to structures but to prow--
perty, streets, utilities - broken water lin.=~s
and holes that had to be filled.
Councilman Leary moved, Councilwoman Morris
seconded that a letter be sent to the Color~..?o
Mined Land Reclamation Division stating thaj_:
the City of Louisville would like more in-
formation on subsurface mined conditions
within the City. All in favor. Motion
carried unanimously.
ON SOUTH Councilmembers had a copy of a letter from
CENTENNIAL Robert Burns, Project Manager for Centennia'.
Engineering giving a progress report on
Sough Boulder Road, as well as an update
on t:he School Crossing Signals.
Bob Cellars, 6511 Welsh Mr. Cellars stated that he was the Principal
~ourt, Arvada Engineer of Centennial Engineering and
would be happy to answer any questions Council
might have.
