9/18/84 Page -20-
Councilman Luce inquired in areas such as
that next to the Village Square Shopping
Center where South Boulder Road is realtively
complete would the bike traffic just be
funneled into the right lane? Mr. Lanter-
man stated that was so unless they would
use the sidewalks in that area.
Engineer Ken Huson advised that they had
done the preliminary engineering to'deter-
m.ine"the feasibility of installing a bike
path for that section of South Boulder Road
from Via Appia to Washington St. It is
possible. The road on the south side of
the Trailer Park could be widened, narrow
the median island through that segment,
and slightly narrow the driving lane widths
through that area. At Via Appia
we would utilize the existing off-street
8' bike paths. From Garfield to Main St.
the current plan calls for a commuter bike
trail to go down the ditch alignment to
the RR right-of-way then on to the east.
This would be commuted to cyclists by strip-
ing.
Mr. Huson stated that it is still not too
late to utilize Cherry St. with bike lanes.
ADOPTION OF NEW DESIGN STANDARDS Mayor Meier moved, Councilman Luce seconded
that Council adopt the new Arterial Street
Standard to include an onstreet bike lanes.
All in favor. Motion carried unanimously.
STRIPING FOR DIAGONAL Councilmembers had a copy of a memo from
PARKING - SOUTH STREET Planner Cathy Kasza recommending that South
Street be striped on south side for diagonal
parking for 2 blocks between Front and
LaFarge Sts. which would add 12 new parking
spaces.
Ms. Kasza stated that all the residents
involved would be contacted and their com-
ments will be taken into consideration be-
fore the striping is done. She had pre-
sented this to Council as an informational
item that had been recommended by the Park-
ing Task Force but the item would not require
any formal action of Council until the resi-
