9/18/84 Page -3- PRESENTATION - PRC/US 36 INTERCHANGE STUDY - 2ND PHASE Wayne Yoshioka, PRC Engineering Councilmembers had a copy of information pertinent to this item from P.R.C. Mr. Yoshioka stated as background infor- mation Phase I of the US 36 Interchange Study was concluded August 24, 1984, and a public meeting was held August 16, 1984 at which time the findings of Phase I were prepared, namely: 1) Existing conditions in the study area. 2) Future projected traffic without any addtional interchanges in the study area. 3) Implications of that future traffic. Land use projections were also included for the Louisville, Broomfield, Lafayette, and Boulder County area in and around the Superior and Broomfield interchanges. The findings of that study indicated that further study was necessary to evaluate an additional interchange on US 36. Primarily because they were finding extreme congestion at the Broomfield interchange and that the Superior interchange was reaching capa- city by the year 2000. If some other access to US 36 was not investigated, there is potentially a serious problem of circula- tion within the tri-cities area. An in- vestigation will be made of alternative locations and they propose that the addi- tional interchange will lie somewhere be- tween the Broomfield and Superior interchanges. An inventory will be made of the area to see what the constraints are, i.e. topo- grpahy, flood plains, subsidence areas, railroad tracks, existing development, and proposed development. In addition to these physical constraints, they will be looking at capatibility with the regional highway system, i.e, does it tie into the existing roads as well as those that we will have in future,. DRCOG is very adamant that it be part of a regional system. Phase 2 of the US 36 Interchange study will be to:
