9/18/84 Page -8-
The first objective that they had was a
friendly amicable resolution of the problem
and they wished to work very much with the
City. Also they wished the City could
figure out someway to get them an answer
from the insurance company or prod them
to delve into it. Mr. Grant stated that
he had dealt with the City's insurance
adjuster 4-5 times in the spring of this
year; but they still hadn't received an
answer to the insurance question. They
are willing to discuss the issues with them
at any time.
Ken Huson, Engineer Mr. Huson stated thexe are basically two
water situations that exist. The natural
storm drainage from the subdivisions exits
through the tracks underneath an existing
railroad culvert, placed there by the RR
Company. The water that is pumped is under-
drain water of the entire subdivision.
The subdivision was platted and developed
in the 1970's. The sanitary sewer system
has been pumped from the north side of
Safeway through a lift station through
forced mains to get into the gravity system.
That left the problem what to do with the
underdrain water. By State Law it cannot
go into the sanitary system. Therefore it
is pumped into that drainage Swale which
then flows down. That probably is as much
the problem as the drainage itself because
it is a fairly constant flow and ev~~-_._...
tually will underdrain the Hunters Ridge
Subdivision also as it develops to the
west. Most of the ground water originates
at the Mesa and a small portion of it from
the ditches.
Mr. Huson stated that the plans that Mr.
Grant had spoken of had been put on hold
until staff had the opportunity to look at
the entire strorm drainage system. The
Public Works Department plans to study the
area and map it and get estimates on how
much it will cost and then develop a plan
to resolve the problem. Mr. Huson stated
it would cost approximately $3,000 for map-
ping and $8,000 for the study before the
construction could be put out for bid.
Mr. Grant stated that it maybe those that
are living with the problem while the City
